Very Annoying Robbery

Before the Palace game, I was already of the opinion that VAR must go, but after, need I say more than Arsenal have been robbed by technology and the people behind it?

If I were in Ozil’s entourage I would write on Twitter, in a mature way, of course, as I don’t spend half my life playing Fortnite: ‘VAR makes me laugh’. In other words, it’s a joke and a company is being paid shed loads at our expense.

Joke number one happened with Arsenal already 2-0 up thanks to goals from Sokratis and Luiz from Pepe corners. The Gunners were looking unusually solid defensively until Chambers hung out a leg. Zaha, instinctively, hurled himself at the outstretched leg, earning himself a deserved yellow card for simulation. To everyone’s amazement, VAR overturned the decision. Although there was contact, Chambers’ leg was outstretched before Zaha deliberately collided with it. If that was a penalty, then we’d better change the rules of the game.

Just when you thought you had enough controversy for one day, the second VAR joke arrived. This time Sokratis smashed the ball home for the winner only for VAR to mysteriously rule it out. If anything, Arsenal could have been awarded a penalty for a foul on Chambers but with even VAR wouldn’t dare to do that, given the legitimate goal that followed the melee in the box.

It was another shocking decision, which resulted in the best team not winning. In short, Arsenal deserved something for their efforts and not just a point.

The defence looked more solid than usual and Tierney was a class act on his Premier League debut.

The only moment that soured the display was Xhaka’s reaction to being substituted: storming off down the tunnel. That is not captain’s behaviour, but that’s what you get when you allow the players to vote for their skipper.

Meanwhile, Bellerin, on the bench, looked frustrated about not getting game time, which you can understand, but Chambers put in an excellent shift overall, so you can see why Emery persevered with him.

Despite the result, this was an encouraging performance from Arsenal and they should be proud of themselves.

    Arsenal deserved NOTHING
Arsenal deserved what they got and should count themselves lucky.
Spineless and characterless Arsenal are just a mid table team – a joke, a laughing stock.
    VAR served justice.
Good for Palace who, for me deserved the win – a better club all round…
Arsenal are a gutless bunch of babies…

VAR served diving. It’s a shame Palace needed to cheat to get a result and an even greater shame that VAR exists.

Leon, what game were you watching? How many times have the referee actually blown against Arsenal when he just should let the game flow. I can remember seeing numerous times in the game where this clown of a referee should actually booked players for simulation.
And who makes the decisions on VAR. If a referee is not sure of something on the field, why does he not consult the monitor? Or is the monitor just there for fun. We got robbed plain and simple, because the referees in the EPL is too weak to make decisions themselves. And what clowns are sitting in the VAR studio that overrules the on field decisions? If Martin Atkinson never referee one our games, it will be too soon.
I see the Serie A referees do it, why the EPL referees? Or are they relying on the feedback they. Spineless referees.
