Sanchez deal needs sorting soon

The thought of losing Alexis Sanchez is what is ruining the summer for many Arsenal fans, who should be basking of the glory of being FA Cup winners for the fourth time in three years.

Instead though, Arsenal fans have had to listen to stories linking Sanchez with a move to Manchester City. The question is: should the Gunners sell their prized asset for big money to a rival or let him go on a free next year?

The answer is neither. Arsenal should pay Sanchez whatever it takes to keep him. It is ludicrous that Sead K has come in on the highest salary, eclipsing Sanchez. I really can’t see the logic in that, although the new defender was a free transfer. Forwards nearly always get paid more than defenders, so this deal bucks the trend.

Meanwhile, there’s talk of Arsenal paying £100m for Mbappe, which is a lot of money for someone who might not even hit the ground running in England. Sanchez, by comparison, is a low risk investment. Arsenal should just pay him what he wants so the fans can enjoy the close season in relative peace.

Surely you don’t think it’s just a matter of money. Sanchez grew frustrated at Arsenal this season and wants to win the league and compete in the Champions League. If he leaves, it will be because of that, not because we’re not willing to pay him what he’s worth.

Personally, I think he’d be an idiot to leave (just like all of our other superstars over the past decade). Sure, Fabregas and Van Persie have both won the league, but at Arsenal they could have been legends. Each could have had a statue outside the Emirates alongside Henry. Instead, they got far less playing time, and then dumped by their “boyhood dream clubs” within a couple of years (and now Fabregas is getting dumped again). Van Persie is a footnote in Man. Utd’s history and Fabregas got regularly booed at the Nou Camp. Not to mention that had they stayed, they might have won titles WITH ARSENAL! It always annoys me when a superstar says they want to leave to go win trophies. I’m sorry, but that’s why we bought you – to win trophies FOR US.
