Sir Persie-van rides to Arsenal’s rescue

Sir Persie-van rode to Arsenal’s rescue on a day when much of the Arsenal team played like the back end of a pantomime horse.

Let’s hear for the van! Never been his biggest fan, as I question some of his decision-making, but Robin was certainly on song against Sunderland. The way he took his first goal with a dummy run in the wrong direction, a check back into space and a low shot set the tone. Well it set the tone for him at least.

At the other end, howlers were the order of the day. The normally reliable Szczeny rushed out of his area only to be easily sidestepped. Luckily the Polish custodian played a get-out-of-poo free card, picking up an unintentional backpass and a semblance of sanity at the back was restored. It could only be a semblance with Jinxinson at the back. But ‘the jinx’ put his losing streak behind him, despite one calamitous area, after Robin came to the rescue with a free kick right out of Sebastien Larsson’s top drawer of howitzer strikes. Why we let Seb go was always a moot point. Why we didn’t bring him back on a free is another question I’d be interested in hearing Wenger reply too.

Finally we’re in the top 10. Just. After another unconvincing performance. But it’s results that count and another win won’t ruin anyone’s confidence.
Meanwhile Wenger might want to consider throwing Nico Yennaris into the fray at right back. He did say Jenkinson can’t play every game.

And playing Andrey Arshavin from the start makes sense too!
